Anyone is welcome to visit us at any time and for any reason.
We are always interested to hear from potential volunteers. The work is very varied, on occasion very challenging but never boring – even cleaning toilets and washing up can be sociable occasions and office administration and fundraising talents are much appreciated in addition to “people” skills.
We encourage our volunteers to develop their individual roles at The Haven and to explore their own talents within the fixed ethos of the Haven, which is to encourage, support and help our visitors to help themselves. We work as a team since we have found that by our joint efforts we often achieve more than by working alone.
We encourage volunteers to come up with fresh ideas and initiatives for The Haven as we know we can always improve.
We constantly strive to improve our skills and therefore try to offer such training as is relevant and we can access.
All of our volunteers devote a minimum of seven hours each week to The Haven as well as all attending regular staff meetings.
Many of our volunteers have themselves been through crises in their own lives and can readily empathise with visitors. We find that we can all learn together from our experiences and often forge strong friendships within the team.
